APPLE has added a number of popular gadgets to its dying list of “outdated” and “vintage” devices.

Owning and using the product in question can be a huge hassle, so affected individuals are encouraged to consider upgrading now.

The tech giant regularly adds older kit to the two lists after many years.

Apple has declared gadgets “vintage” if it’s been five years since they were last sold.

And after 7 years, we move on to the dreaded “outdated” list.

This is especially problematic since all hardware services have been shut down and replacement parts cannot be ordered, making it nearly impossible to repair damage.

The latest update to the list added many iPhone, iPad, Mac, and iPod models.

When it comes to iPods, this means a final goodbye for two models: the iPod Nano and the iPod Shuffle.

For the iPhone, it’s a break from the main iPhone 6. The larger iPhone 6 Plus was discontinued in April.

See the complete list of obsolete products added to the list below.

  • iPhone6
  • iPod Nano (7th generation)
  • iPod Shuffle (4th generation)

As for the vintage list, the iPad 1 model and MacBook 1 model are coming to an end.

Is it time to upgrade?

Analysis by Jamie Harris, The Sun’s assistant technology and science editor

All of the gadgets listed above are discontinued and are no longer available for purchase.

Due to your age, you are also ineligible for free iOS upgrades.

These include important security updates, so you should already be done with keeping the contents of your phone safe.

Having to buy a new smartphone is a pain, but it also prevents you from getting repairs, especially if the price isn’t cheap.

The safest option is to upgrade to a new phone.
