If your iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Pro restarts unexpectedly, you’re not alone. Reports say some users have witnessed crashes up to 10 times a day. Now, Apple has confirmed that support will be coming in the form of the soon-to-be-released iOS 18.1.
The next iPhone software release, iOS 18.1, is expected to be released by the end of October, or next week. This is highly anticipated because it will unlock Apple Intelligence for the first time. However, other bugs will also be fixed, other features will be added, and this random crash issue will also be fixed.
As reported by MacRumors, “Since the new iPhone 16 models were launched, there have been reports of unexpected reboots. Affected users may experience problems such as the iPhone’s display becoming unresponsive or the speed of touch input slowing down. The issue appears to occur randomly and can even affect devices that are in standby mode, causing 10 to 20 crashes per day. Some users do so, while others restart less often.
These problems can be very troubling when accumulated over a day, but these crashes are more of a nuisance than a crisis. There seems to be no easy way to overcome this problem, either a fresh install or reinstalling from an iCloud backup, both of which seem to be a little trickier.
Now, MacRumors says the issue is being fixed. “Apple has confirmed that the iOS 18.1 update fixes the restart issue. This issue is documented in the iOS 18.1 release notes included in the release candidate published today.”
So when will the general release version of iOS 18.1 be released? Apple has only announced until the end of October, but Apple prefers to release on Mondays or Tuesdays, so October 28th and October 29th. Day is a strong candidate.
However, it is still possible that it will be earlier, for example on Wednesday 23rd October or Thursday 24th October.
In addition to this timely fix and the much-vaunted Apple Intelligence, we’re also adding other new features, including the ability to record calls and take spatial photos on iPhone 15 Pro.
