Windows already allows Android phone connectivity with Phone Link, but it’s limited to photo access and a few other features. On Windows, system integration with File Explorer may allow users to view and edit files on Android smartphones via their PC.
Android file management on Windows already exists. This process requires you to physically connect your Windows PC and Android device using a USB connection. This process works well, but it’s not as convenient as I thought.
Microsoft appears to be starting to roll out features that automatically integrate Android devices into its File Explorer app (via Latest version of Windows). You may need to connect your phone via a link to a Windows app on Android. This process prepares for phone integration and will extend to file access in the future.
Please note that this rollout is automatic on Windows 10 and 11, but the Cross Device Experience Host app must be updated through the Microsoft Store. The update seems to be done on the server side. This means a full system update may not be necessary.
It’s very easy to operate and works just like using a USB cable. Your phone will appear under your system name in the sidebar, and your files will be accessible as usual.
This feature appears to be rolling out to more and more users. We ourselves had access to this feature. This means it may become accessible to more users.
