Following yesterday’s OTA for Android 14, Google is rolling out an update to Pixel devices on Android 15 beta 4.2.
Android 15 Beta 4.2 was released in mid-August as the last update before the launch of Android 15 QPR1 Beta. The August 2024 security patch was applied and later made available for Pixel 9 and 9 Pro XL.
For those who didn’t want to start testing quarterly Platform Release 1 (scheduled for release in December) and had to wait for the “final stable Android 15 public release,” Google’s instructions , to opt out of the Android Beta program and ignore the downgrade. OTA to Android 14. I’ve had to do that for the past two months because my device doesn’t have the September update.
As of this afternoon, users on Android 15 beta 4.2 are experiencing OTAs of 200-MB (up from over 1 GB on Android 14).
Some features from Beta 4.2, such as device diagnostics and adaptive timeouts, have been removed from the stable release.
Meanwhile, Android 15 QPR1 hasn’t been updated since Beta 2 on September 12th. Surprisingly, Google didn’t patch several bugs (such as screenshots not capturing, lock screen shortcuts missing, and not being able to exit apps on the lock screen) for several weeks after that. . There will probably be another update (Beta 2.1 or Beta 3) before the December release.
