A smart device that functions as both a speaker and a tablet in one, the Echo Show 8 might be just what you’re looking for. If you’ve never heard of it before, the Amazon device combines the best of the trusty Echo Dot speaker and touchscreen tablet into one.
Easily set up with a smart hub device, this tablet-like speaker incorporates Amazon’s famous Alexa virtual assistant, making it a handy gadget to have in your office, living room, bedroom, or my personal favorite. kitchen. As the name suggests, it comes with an 8-inch display that you can use to catch live notifications and switch between watching Prime Video (yes, like a tablet).
The latest Echo Show 8 3rd Generation is currently discounted in Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days sale, where many of its tech products are at the forefront of discounted prices. Buyers of the regular £149.99 tech product can save £55 after the Prime Day deadline of 11.59pm on October 9th.
As the name suggests, it has an 8-inch touchscreen, and if you choose the smaller Echo Show 5 or the larger Echo Show 15, you’ll be packing the same speakers and an Alexa speaker, but the size of the tablet screen it’s different. With Echo Show, you can watch your favorite movies, series, and documentaries, and even make video calls from the built-in camera.
With spatial audio, this upgrade pays even more attention to listening quality. Essentially, this feature allows sounds from music, movies, and series to sound as if they’re wrapped around you without being too harsh. In fact, this is what led me to consider upgrading my current Echo Show 8 (1st generation) to the fancier 3rd generation model.
This is one of my favorite Amazon devices at home, propped up in my kitchen. I use it to play music while I cook, look up recipes, answer calls, and ask Alexa to watch the next episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” or “Emily in Paris.” It’s messy. However, like the original model, it has subdued Dolby Stereo sound.
Alexa can find recipes in a matter of seconds, which definitely saves me the hassle of looking it up on Google or pulling out my phone to dust off the handful of cookbooks on my bookshelf. The fact that you don’t have to touch anything with dirty hands also makes life a lot easier.
Cooking aside, I think this is the best place to put your device. You can also take calls, listen to podcasts, or watch movies while cooking. I may be lazy, but I love it. It’s not quite as luxurious as the Echo Show 8 3rd generation currently on sale, but that’s one of the reasons we recommend it, along with the £55 savings.
One of my pet peeves is that if you’re considering Amazon’s Prime subscription, you can only call contacts who have the Alexa app downloaded on their devices. This is a hassle for those who haven’t downloaded it and when they can pick up the phone instead. Don’t get me wrong. It’s a great feature, and I’ve tested the camera and regular call settings and found the quality is better than Zoom, Teams, Skype (remember those?), and just as good as using Apple’s products. I understand. Face time.
Similar to Amazon and its Echo Show devices, Debenhams has reduced the price of its Leaper 80-inch tablet to £53.99. This is an affordable option if you are looking for an inexpensive model.
