As always, filmmaker Joey Helms has created an amazing iPhone 16 Pro cinematic video demo reel in his hometown of Chicago.
This year, he teamed up with Sam Perez to put a new cell phone on a drone and include an aerial shot. And of course, we’ve included some additional slow-motion footage to highlight the new 120fps 4K capture feature.
Helms said everything was shot in ProRes LOG 4K on an iPhone 16 Pro and edited in Final Cut Pro X.
As always, we’ll follow up with a behind-the-scenes video showing how we filmed.
Consumer drones have a built-in camera, but more rugged models can have a separate camera attached. This ranges from small mirrorless cameras to professional DSLR and cinema cameras. Or in this case, an iPhone.
Drone shots make up too much of the finished video for my taste. The joy of these videos for me is that they demonstrate what can be done with just an iPhone and a tremendous amount of talent. Very few iPhone owners have access to a drone of this caliber.
However, there is no doubt that filming with a drone produces even better results.
We’ll have some thoughts from the filmmakers on the new iPhone in the next article, but for now sit back and enjoy…
