Apple has released new firmware for AirPods 4, adding to a series of recent firmware releases across the AirPods product line. Here’s what you need to know:
Latest firmware release is the same build as AirPods Pro 2
The latest AirPods 4 firmware has build number 7B19. This is the same version released last week for AirPods Pro 2.
However, unlike AirPods Pro 2, AirPods 4 does not offer support for iOS 18.1’s new hearing health features. Despite running the same firmware, hearing testing, hearing protection, and hearing aid functionality all remain exclusive to AirPods Pro 2.
Apple has not yet issued release notes for the AirPods 4 firmware, but no new features or notable changes are expected.
Other recent firmware releases include version 6F21 for the original AirPods Pro, AirPods 2 and 3. The last AirPods 4 firmware was version 7A304.
The recent release notes say:
Bug fixes and other improvements
Perhaps today’s update will bring it to AirPods 4 as well.
It’s not uncommon for Apple’s firmware updates to make small adjustments to how features like active noise cancellation and adaptive audio work on compatible AirPods models. However, Apple typically does not specifically advertise these changes in the release notes.
