After a long wait, Apple has finally released artificial intelligence (AI) tools for iPhone to a select few users.

Apple Intelligence, a suite of AI tools announced in June, became available to some iPhone owners around the world on Monday.

New features include an overview of notifications, tools to help users compose messages, and a great new interface for virtual assistant Siri.

However, these are only available to those using the latest devices, including all models of the iPhone 16, iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.

Apple Intelligence is also available on Mac computers and iPad tablets with the latest chips.

But some of the tools made available Monday came later than comparable features on other popular devices.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said the public availability of AI tools ushered in a “new era” for the company’s products.

This comes after the company announced on Friday that it would offer a reward of up to $1 million (£770,000) to an ethical hacker who demonstrates vulnerabilities in its AI software.

The set of features released in the iOS 18.1 update on Monday was the first wave of AI tools to date. Unveiled at Apple’s summer developer conference.

Additional features are planned for later this year, including the ability to generate images and emojis from text prompts.

Google and Samsung are already introducing AI capabilities into their devices.

This includes allowing users to translate conversations in real-time, automatically organize notes, and search for anything online in circles.

Initially, Samsung was making Galaxy AI features available on its latest handsets, but it has expanded to include S22 devices that will be released in 2022.

South Korean technology giant said in February The company plans to deploy Galaxy AI to more than 100 million users within 2024.

Apple’s new cleanup tool lets you remove unwanted objects and people from images, and follows Google’s previous release. A similar tool called Magic Eraser.

Mr. Cook told the Wall Street Journal in October that the company “is perfectly fine not being No. 1,” adding that “it takes time to become a really great company.”
