Today, PhoneArena introduced a new version of its smartphone review rating system.
This adjustment recalibrates how performance is scored on smartphones.
Specifically, we changed the metrics for two performance subscores. Previous versions of the scoring system had large disparities between performance scores. affordable mobile phones, Mid-range phones and flagships. After re-evaluating the state of the smartphone market, we no longer believe this accurately represents most users’ perception of performance. Simply put, cheap cell phones is faster than ever before, and the gap with the best performing devices is not as large as previous scoring criteria suggested.

Here’s how the scores change for some different phones across different categories:
Low-cost mobile phone – Samsung Galaxy A15 5G
As you can see in the lower-priced Galaxy A15 5G, the difference in total score is minimal, but the Performance Daily and Performance Peak scores improve by more than 1 point. This will give you a more accurate picture of your performance and will likely result in a slightly more accurate total score.
Mid-range mobile phone – Motorola Edge 50 Pro
Another example is the mid-range Motorola Edge 50 Pro model. Here we see more significant changes in the “Performance Daily” and “Performance Peak” categories. This reflects our view that: mid range phone These days, it has a stable performance that most users rank at “5/10”. This change in perception slightly increases the total score by 0.3 points.
Flagship phone – Galaxy S24 Ultra
Finally, about the flagship Galaxy S24 Ultra, our system shows minimal changes. The S24 Ultra is already very fast, and the old standard scoring is already very accurate. In this case, we see an increase of 0.4 points in both the Performance Daily and Performance Peak categories.
