Between the new M4-based Macs and the long-awaited arrival of Apple Intelligence to macOS, Apple has been peppering us with news about its new Mac lineup all week. The M4-powered 24-inch iMac was first introduced, and now the new Mac Mini, incredibly small and powered by the M4 chip, has joined the fray. Pre-orders for the desktop machines start at $1,299 and $599, respectively, and both will be available on November 8th.
In addition to the M4 iMac’s new colors, USB-C peripherals, and upgraded 12MP FaceTime camera, Apple is increasing the initial RAM from 8GB to 16GB. There aren’t any other dramatic performance differences compared to last year’s model, but the added power and memory are welcome for handling the AI-powered Apple Intelligence features arriving this week as part of macOS Sequoia 15.1. It should be a boost.
Similarly, the new M4 Mac Mini starts with 16 GB of RAM. It is also significantly smaller than the M2 model and features a reshuffled I/O configuration. The front has a 3.5mm audio jack and two USB-C / Thunderbolt ports, while the back has three additional USB-C ports along with Gigabit Ethernet. And an HDMI port. However, the base M4 model still uses Thunderbolt 4, while the M4 Pro model has Thunderbolt 5.
We haven’t tested the new iMac or Mac Mini (yet), but if you want to get in early, there are plenty of pre-order options to consider.
Where to pre-order the M4 iMac
The iMac comes with a Magic Keyboard and either a Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad (the latter costs an additional $50), all of which have USB-C ports. It won’t be available until November 8th, but it’s available for pre-order now from Apple in green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver, with base models starting at $1,299. You can also pre-order some configurations at the same price on Amazon, and get $50 off at Best Buy with a My Best Buy Plus or Total membership starting at $50 per year.
The entry-level version offers an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU, as well as a pair of Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports. It also offers 16 GB of RAM, but you can upgrade to 24 GB for an additional $200. The iMac ships with 256 GB of storage by default, but you can get 512 GB of storage for an additional $200, and 1 TB of storage for an additional $400. For an additional $200, you can add nanotextured glass, which scatters light and minimizes screen glare.
Meanwhile, the top model is available from Apple, Amazon, and Best Buy starting at $1,499 and comes with four Thunderbolt 4 ports, 16GB RAM, and 256GB of storage. For an additional $200, you can upgrade to 24 GB of RAM or 512 GB of storage. If you need more storage, you can get 1 TB or 2 TB for an additional $400 or $800, respectively. Apple also lets you upgrade to 32GB of RAM and 512GB of storage for an additional $400.

The latest version of Apple’s all-in-one desktop computer is powered by the M4 chip and supports Apple Intelligence. Unlike its predecessor, the base model offers 16GB RAM and a new 12MP webcam by default.

Models with the M4 Pro chip feature a 12-core CPU and 16-core GPU, 24 GB RAM, and 512 GB SSD and are available for pre-order from Apple starting at $1,399.
