TL;DR
- A private article in the Apple App Store reportedly mentions an upcoming AI feature that could summarize user reviews.
- This tool can scan all reviews for a particular app listing and display an overview with the most common customer feedback.
- Developers have the option to report to Apple if they believe the AI summary in their app’s listing is inaccurate.
Digital marketplaces like Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store have long supported user ratings and reviews. These can help beginners evaluate whether an app really serves its purpose and decide whether to purchase or install it. However, reading reviews can be a time-consuming process, as some apps display millions of reviews. Fortunately for iPhone users, Apple may start relying on AI to summarize App Store reviews.
According to a private App Store article viewed by 9to5 macApple may introduce AI-powered review summaries to its digital storefront. The feature reportedly relies on the company’s cloud infrastructure to scan all reviews associated with a particular list of apps, rather than on-device AI models. You will then be presented with an overview containing the most common customer feedback.
Developers are expected to be able to report inaccurate AI summaries that appear in their apps’ App Store listings to Apple. The company will then likely consider their claims and regenerate the summaries, or possibly hide them altogether.
Amazon already offers a similar feature in its store, and given Google’s focus on Gemini, the Play Store could realistically adopt a similar feature in the future. This highlights the pros and cons of an app’s popularity and saves users from having to analyze dozens of reviews at once. Apple hasn’t made any official announcement about this yet, so it remains unclear when exactly the AI Review Summary will appear on the App Store. This benefit may roll out in select countries/regions through a future iOS 18 update.
