The App Store may soon introduce AI-generated summaries of users’ app reviews. Here’s what we know so far about this feature:
On Monday, Apple released iOS 18.1, making Apple Intelligence available to the general public. With Apple Intelligence, you can now receive summaries of your emails, messages, and notifications with the help of Apple’s generative AI software.
It now appears that the iOS App Store is set up with a similar feature, allowing for an AI-generated summary of user-provided app reviews. While there’s no clear indication of what these outlines will ultimately look like, we do know quite a bit about them.
as originally discovered 9to5 macApple’s review summary may appear alongside your app’s description and screenshots when users view the main page of your App Store application. Information about these new AI-powered summaries was reportedly discovered on a private App Store page.
As long as an application has a sufficient amount of user reviews, Apple will generate a summary highlighting the most common customer feedback related to a particular application.
The company’s new App Store review summary is updated every time an application receives new reviews from users. Developers can also report summaries they believe are inaccurate.
However, it’s worth noting that these app review summaries are only available in certain countries and regions, but it’s unclear which ones. The ultimate purpose of these summaries is to provide users with a clear picture of app reviews, allowing them to more easily decide whether to purchase or install a particular application.
There are currently no details on how the synopsis itself will be created, but Apple will likely adopt an internal variant of its existing large-scale language model for such enterprise tasks. The snippet shared in the report does not mention an AI-generated summary, but given the feature description and country availability, it is likely based on AI-generated technology.
Your app may include an overview that highlights the most common customer feedback and sentiments in user reviews about your app. The summary will be updated as new reviews are added. Overviews are available in select countries and regions and for apps with enough reviews to provide an overview. These are displayed on the app’s product page. If the summary is inaccurate or you have another issue, you can report an issue.
References to this feature can already be found in the App Store API, so a summary of Apple’s App Store reviews could be published in the near future. The company has been adding more and more AI-related features with each new iOS 18 update. The iOS 18.2 developer beta recently introduced support for Image Playground and Visual Intelligence on iPhone 16.
