Apple has finally released the most anticipated feature of the new iPhone.
Earlier this year, the company announced Apple Intelligence, a new suite of AI capabilities. At the time, it said the first projects would arrive later this year.
These new features were a key part of the iPhone 16, which was announced last month. However, all these features were missing at launch.
Now, Apple has released the first of these in the form of a new free iOS 18.1 update. Users will be prompted to download it now from the Settings app or install it overnight.
However, Apple Intelligence is only available to a small number of users. For iPhones, this tool is only available on the new iPhone 16 lineup and last year’s iPhone 15 Pro. Also, at this time, this tool is only available on devices set to the United States.
Also, new updates do not provide all newly announced features. It includes tools like Notification Overview, writing tools, and a new look for Siri, but many of the larger updates are yet to arrive.
Apple plans to roll out new generative AI features in the coming months, including a “genmoji” app for creating new emojis. And Apple has promised to overhaul Siri to allow for more personal contexts in the future.
Some of the same features will be added in new updates for iPad and Mac. You can also download iPad OS 18.1 and MacOS 15.1 now to bring Apple Intelligence tools to these platforms.
There are even more diverse iPad and Mac devices that can support Apple Intelligence. These will be included in all iPads and Macs with the M1 chip or newer, as well as the new iPad Mini built specifically for these tools.
