iPhone and iPad users in the EU can get Apple Intelligence in April 2025
After announcing Apple Intelligence at WWDC 2024, the company said that its AI capabilities will not be available to users within the European Union at launch. Apple had concerns about compliance with antitrust laws in the Digital Markets Act. However, there is good news for users in the EU.
Apple confirmed on the European version of its website that it will launch Apple Intelligence in the EU next April. This news comes alongside confirmation that more languages will be added to Apple Intelligence in a software update released in April. The list includes many European languages, such as French, German, and Italian.
There is one more thing to keep in mind. Only iPhones and iPads are subject to EU antitrust laws, so Mac users can already try Apple Intelligence in the EU using macOS 15.1.
“With macOS Sequoia 15.1, Mac users in the EU can access Apple Intelligence in American English. In April, Apple Intelligence features will begin rolling out to iPhone and iPad users in the EU,” Apple told reporters. told.
Currently, Apple Intelligence only works in US English. iOS 18.2, currently in beta, expands support for English in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. The company says the update will be released in December.
In iOS 18.1 and macOS 15.1, users can use writing tools to modify and proofread text, summarize text, and notify users. This update also includes a cleanup for the Photos app.
iOS 18.2 and macOS 15.2 offer even more Apple Intelligence features, including Image Playgrounds, Genmoji, and ChatGPT integration.
Note that Apple Intelligence requires iPhone 15 Pro or later, or Macs and iPads with M1 chips or later. The new iPad mini, equipped with the A17 Pro chip, also supports AI features.
