Apple officially launches Apple Intelligence, its new personal intelligence system, in the US With the release of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1. Powered by Apple Silicon, the system powers Siri while adding a variety of AI-driven features across Writing, Email, Messages, and Notifications. Image editing tools, including AI-powered cleanup features, are also part of this update.
Starting today, Siri offers more natural conversation features and a modern design with glowing lights that surround the edges of your screen when active on your iPhone, iPad, or CarPlay. On your Mac, Siri can be repositioned on your desktop for easier access. Users can now type into Siri and switch between text and voice. This allows Siri to maintain context across multiple requests and assist users with questions about Apple features and settings.
The Photos app now lets users search using a short description and is now enhanced with smart completion suggestions. A new cleanup tool lets you surround your photo on your screen to remove unwanted elements.
Apple Intelligence provides summarized notifications on your lock screen, condensing long threads into quick previews. The “Reduce Disruption” focus feature filters only important notifications.
Notes and Phone apps now support audio recording, transcription, and summary generation. Participants will be notified when the call begins recording, and after the call, Apple Intelligence will create a summary to capture key points.
Apple Intelligence, currently available to users in the United States, is expected to roll out to additional regions by December. Localized English support is expanding to Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom, with additional language support planned for April 2025, including Chinese, French, and German.
Apple Intelligence is compatible with iPhone 16 and 15 Pro models, iPads with A17 Pro or M1 processors, and Macs with M1 or newer processors.
