When Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Flip 5, it focused more on letting users interact with apps through widgets than on being able to display full-fledged apps on the large cover screen. Since then, we’ve been working on adding more widgets to the cover screen, and YouTube Music may soon be added to the cover screen.
YouTube Music could bring cover screen widget to foldable smartphones
According to a report from Android permissionsYouTube Music could see a Now Playing widget on the cover screen of the Galaxy Z Flip-style folding phone. Version 7.24.51 The YouTube Music app for Android contains code strings that reference widgets that you can add to your cover screen.
The same code was reportedly found within the app AndroidManifest.xml file. This file is very important for Android apps and contains relevant information about the app. This is in line with Samsung’s recommendation for displaying cover screen widgets in the Flex window of Galaxy Z Flip series phones.
It appears that Google is still testing this feature internally, and the Cover Screen widget isn’t ready for prime time yet. We expect it to offer more controls and options than the regular Now Playing widget you can add to your home screen. We believe that widgets should have controls for play/pause, previous track, next track, shuffle, repeat, like/dislike, and popular/saved playlists.
Once this feature is fully developed, it will be available on Galaxy Z Flip series phones in the following locations: setting » cover screen » widget.

Ideally, Google could create an API and design guidelines for creating cover screen widgets for all clamshell-style foldable smartphones. A central API makes it easy for third-party app developers to create useful and nice-looking widgets.
