In this weekend’s Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman says: bloomberg has outlined some additional details about Apple’s upcoming smart home products, and it seems likely that there will be a throwback to one of Apple’s beloved computers, the iMac G4.
It’s long been expected that Apple would be working on a smart home display, and it’s currently on track to ship early next year. The device is also Apple’s first smart home product to support Apple Intelligence and will be powered by the A18 chip.
Garman said the screen will be relatively small, about the size of two iPhones side by side, with a square aspect ratio. The product is likely to be relatively inexpensive and easy to deploy in homes, making Apple’s next homeOS operating system much more accessible.
Garman also noted that Apple’s new homeOS runs apps like FaceTime, Notes, and Calendar, and described it as “well-suited” for video and photo slideshows.
Additionally, he said the base could incorporate speakers, making smart home displays closer to the HomePod with a display.
But most interesting are the small design tips that Gurman highlighted.
The screen is placed diagonally on a small base, reminiscent of the circular bottom of the iMac G4 from decades ago.
The upcoming Apple smart home display looks like a great throwback for Apple fans. Many of them have always wanted to bring back the retro iMac design.
What do you think about Apple’s upcoming smart home display? Will you buy it? Let us know in the comments.
