Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 owners and later Galaxy Watch 5 and 4 series users are about to get the Wear OS 5 update after months of beta testing.
This update to some of the best Android watches comes from a recent Reddit post, first spotted on android police) Samsung will send a screencap to beta testers to notify them that the beta testing process has ended. Android Police reports that Galaxy Watch 6 owners who aren’t in the beta program will receive a new Wear OS 5 firmware update “in the coming days.”
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and 4 owners can also expect a Wear OS 5 firmware update, but it reportedly won’t be available for another few weeks.
Wear OS 5, as always, launches with Samsung’s One UI Watch interface. One UI Watch 6 is Samsung’s latest version of Wear OS, and Galaxy Watch 6 owners will be asked to switch through a software update.
The new Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 already uses One UI Watch 6. Thanks to new features such as Energy Score, which is also used in the Samsung Galaxy Ring, it has received very high reviews.
Analysis: Samsung is succeeding where Google is struggling
Samsung has completed testing and rolling out Wear OS 5, but Google is having some issues with its own operating system. While Wear OS 5 runs on the Pixel Watch 3, Google has stopped rolling out the original Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2.
Google is still resolving the issue, as users are reporting that the new operating system bricks their devices.
Still, the update is expected to roll out to older Pixel Watch users by the end of the year.
