That can’t be denied. The energy and atmosphere at Chrome Summit 2024 was palpable. We talked a lot about what we saw there this week in other posts and videos, but we’re still very excited about the momentum we’re seeing in the enterprise space right now, including ChromeOS, ChromeOS Flex, and Chromebooks in general.
The conclusion is: ChromeOS has made great strides in business, and its trajectory is only expected to continue upward in the coming years. ChromeOS, which is both easy to deploy and manage, makes great sense for leveraging the power of the ever-expanding number of web-based applications at scale.
Throw in virtualized legacy applications and the power of Gemini AI with Cameyo’s integration and you have all the ingredients for a more seamless and stress-free transition for the majority of enterprises to this powerful set of devices and services. It will be arranged. Below that is ChromeOS. I think this is the future that many of the original builders of this cloud-based OS saw over a decade ago when it all started.
As large-scale deployment increases, demand also increases.
One of the main factors driving hardware innovation is demand. And the demand comes from many users. Chromebooks have exploded in popularity and now dominate the education sector. But the demand there is for devices that are more durable and increasingly priced. No one really wants to slam a bunch of super-slim, super-fast Chromebooks into a classroom. They need their devices to last a long time, and that’s exactly the kind of movement we’ve seen in the education space.
The consumer market is still undecided about Chromebooks, which means there isn’t as much demand for them at the moment as some would like. At this point, consumers generally expect Chromebook prices to cap at around $699, which is why we currently have the highest MSRP for Chromebook Plus. The market has decided that a better Chromebook is worth it, at least until more features are inspired by Windows and MacOS.
However, the enterprise sector is growing at an incredible pace. And as more companies make top-down decisions to migrate to ChromeOS, employees will increasingly demand better, higher-end devices to work with. Sure, the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Plus consumer model is great, but we’re seeing a lot of companies telling both Google and Samsung that they need and want more.
Here’s where it gets interesting. Over the next 24 months and beyond, we expect to see many businesses and organizations, large and small, migrate to ChromeOS. As they do so, they will demand better hardware for specific parts of their fleets, and where there is demand, we will see product growth.
The UK already has a Core 5-120U model of the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook Plus, with a Core 5-120U and 16GB of RAM. Maybe it even has 512GB of storage at the moment.
The point is, more energy for companies means more demand, which leads to better, higher-end Chromebooks with places to sell them. So far, devices priced above $999 haven’t fared all that well in the consumer market. But massive demand in the corporate world could give companies like Samsung a reason to develop these higher-spec models, which could also become available to regular people like you and me. It means that there is a gender.
