TL;DR
- Google has released updates for Nest Hub, Nest Audio, and Pixel Tablet.
- This update changes the confirmation tone when activating smart home hardware.
- The sound is a little higher than before.
If your Nest speakers or Pixel Tablet sound a little different these days, it’s not your fault. New confirmation sounds have been added to these devices.
According to reports 9to5GoogleGoogle recently rolled out updates for the Nest Hub, Nest Audio, and Pixel Tablet. This update does not include any major changes such as new features or software, but it does include some small changes.
When you summon Google Assistant to enable or disable your smart home hardware, you’ll hear a confirmation sound to let you know the task is complete. For example, if you tell Google to turn on the lights, you’ll hear a sound when the lights turn on. Previously, this notification sounded like a dull tingling sound, but has now been updated to sound like a higher pitched chime.
This isn’t the biggest change in the world, so you may not have noticed it yet. But if you do, you’ll find that the beep sound is certainly different than before.
This update is pretty small, but something bigger happened to Pixel tablets earlier this month. You can now cast media between your Pixel phone and Pixel tablet by simply holding your phone close to your tablet. This feature was first rolled out in January.
