The first pieces of Apple Intelligence are starting to appear on people’s phones. The features in iOS 18.1 are pretty basic, including summarizing messages and composing emails. However, Apple has already allowed developers to play on iOS 18.2, and it looks like it will be a more substantial update. Meanwhile, the company is rolling out a number of new M4-powered and AI-focused Macs, and this week launched the iPad Mini. There’s a lot going on at once and a lot to understand.
Then we get into other news from the world of AI. Anthropic has built a model that can use a computer in your place. This is both cool and scary, and it’s also the main goal of almost every company in the AI space. Humane is working to make AI Pin cheaper and license its operating system to other companies, but it has some big questions. Perplexity has come under fire for copyright reasons. The ability to watermark AI images does not yet work. It’s all a lot.
