OnePlus today announces the first Android 15 update as a beta version of OxygenOS 15. The new OS version will be available first on OnePlus 12 and will be expanded over the coming months.
With this release of Android 15 and OxygenOS 15, OnePlus is focusing on a few key areas that may be familiar to those who know the OnePlus and software story. First, they really want to know how much effort they put into making this even. Faster and smootherAdditionally, they have reduced much of the size/bloat of OxygenOS (for future devices) and updated some UI design elements. And, of course, there’s a ton of AI going on.
OxygenOS 15 is fast and super smooth
OnePlus devices have always been some of the smoothest to use, but OnePlus has put a tremendous amount of effort into making them run even faster and smoother on Android 15. We’re not kidding here. I attended a briefing about the new OxygenOS 15 and got a 15-minute demo of how smoothly icons open and close. Just open and close it. opening. It ends. Over and over again. If they were trying to get a point across, they certainly did.
OnePlus introduced something called Parallel Processing to achieve this, but an explanation of how it works is probably too technical for this blog. All you need to know is that OnePlus smartphones never slow down and always look nice and smooth no matter the load. Yes, faster and smoother.
Less bloat, more storage
For now, this won’t affect anyone unless they buy a OnePlus 13 in the next few months. However, OxygenOS 15 reduces system storage by 20% compared to OxygenOS 14. This could potentially give you an additional 5 GB of space. use.
Again, this reclaimed storage space won’t magically appear when Android 15 comes to OnePlus 12, but new smartphones should offer additional space in the future. is.
Design updates
As part of this update to Android 15, OnePlus has touched on a number of UI elements to ensure that the experience at least feels somewhat new, even if it’s not a wholesale redesign. Charging and unlocking effects have been enhanced, Gaussian blur in and out of the notification area has been refined, icons have been redesigned, and the quick settings area has been adjusted to make brightness and volume controls more prominent.
They also inherited the Open Canvas idea from the OnePlus Open. This is a multitasking feature that allows you to run multiple apps at the same time, allowing you to quickly swipe up or down to get a near-full view of your apps. This is a nifty idea that allows you to run two apps at the same time without feeling cramped in a square box.
Oh yeah, AI is everywhere!
Look, I don’t really promote AI here. Because everyone is just repackaging the same AI tools over and over again, and most of them aren’t actually all that useful. Either that or they create a world that isn’t real, and that’s not something we all should care about that much. Fake AI images and edited photos are bad. I have no choice but to say it.
Anyway, with OxygenOS 15, OnePlus will do the following:
- AI detail boost: This AI feature takes photos that appear unusable and attempts to clean them up with AI processing. Good for zoomed shots or when you need to highlight background details. This is a cloud-based feature.
- AI unblur: As the name suggests, this feature attempts to blur blurry things like messy shots of children or pets. This is a cloud-based feature.
- AI reflective eraser: Another cloud-based reflection eraser can remove both strong and subtle reflections that can scare your photos.
- intelligent search: This feature works both in the cloud and on-device, and is a search tool that lets you search for information across settings, files, and notes. An example is performing a search that returns results for text deep in documents on your phone. That might be useful.
- Search by circle: Yes, OxygenOS 15 supports Google’s Circle to Search. You know what this is.
- AI memo: Another cloud-based feature, AI Notes organizes your notes, makes them easier to read, corrects grammar, adjusts structure, makes sure everything is correct…what more? I don’t even know if it’s there.
- gemini: OnePlus 13 officially integrates Google’s Gemini.
Share with iPhone app
And finally, as part of OxygenOS 15, OnePlus wants your iPhone friends to install the new O+Connect app so you can easily share files between your OnePlus phone and iPhone. That’s lucky, but it’s a problem.
OxygenOS 15 begins open beta on October 30th.
