- Google has announced the rollout of Android 15 QPR1 Beta 3 to registered testers with eligible Pixel devices.
- This update focuses on the strange blank screen issue on foldable devices and continues to push out additional fixes for Bluetooth.
- This QPR test is expected to be the next feature drop scheduled for release in December.
Pixel beta users are finally getting another QPR build to further experiment with Google’s next planned feature drop.
The company highlighted the arrival of Android 15 QPR1 Beta 3 through a post on Reddit. Applies to Pixel devices from Pixel 6 to the latest Pixel 9 series. Includes Pixel Fold, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and Pixel Tablet. User starts downloading version AP41.240925.009 As the weekend approaches.
Google’s Beta 3 is packed with fixes that resolve various reported issues, including QoL fixes for Pixel volume buttons. The company cited several IssueTracker reports stating that users cannot change the sound of connected Bluetooth devices using the physical volume buttons on their phones. Google says the issue has been “fixed for certain devices” with earbuds and speakers.
Android’s feature that allows users to switch profiles has caused problems for some people, with reports that switching from “primary to secondary” will force a reboot. Google added that users have encountered slow devices and crashes, but this should be fixed in QPR1 Beta 3.
Users reported that when opening the OG Fold or Pro Fold, the internal screen (sometimes) goes blank. Google says a fix has arrived to fix this issue.
Here’s the rest of the QPR1 Beta 3 patch for Android 15:
- We fixed an issue where some content in notifications could appear clipped.
- Fixed an issue with system memory paging that could cause the device to crash or reboot.
- We fixed an issue where some app icons on the home screen were displaying the default system icon instead of the app icon.
- Fixed an issue where the system UI could crash.
- Fixed an issue where users might be unable to interact with heads-up notifications.
- Fixed an issue where the system could crash while creating a bug report.
- Fixed various other issues that were impacting system stability, connectivity, and interactivity.
- Fixed a crash in BluetoothDevice.getType() that occurred primarily in test environments when Bluetooth resources were reused between virtual device instances.
- Improved volume control in LE Audio by allowing you to adjust the volume of each connected sink individually using the UI, and by restricting volume key adjustments to the primary sink.
Registered testers, look for an OTA (over-the-air) update today (October 24th). However, please note that it may take a little longer. Users can manually check for available beta updates. Settings > System > System Update.
Google has been quiet about the QPR1 beta for longer than expected, as Beta 2 debuted in early September. This was a very thick patch as the company was trying to resolve some Bluetooth and NFC payment issues with the Pixel ecosystem. However, that update included hints about what Google is working on for the future, including an upcoming redesign of the Settings menu. The change is rumored to be coming to Android 16, and Rahman said the icon “currently exists” in the QPR1 beta.
QPR1 Beta 3 is gearing up for an (expected) December feature drop, but some of Google’s products are struggling with a stable OS. Users recently reported that Android 15 blocked their Pixel 6 smartphones.
