According to Jeff Pugh, a technology analyst with a pretty good track record of Apple rumors, the high-end iPhone 17 Pro Max released next year will have a smaller dynamic island. This reiterates information he first shared in May.
The information was obtained in a research report with investment bank Kaitong International earlier this month. mcroomersPu said the iPhone 17 Pro Max employs a “metalens” for Face ID, resulting in a “significantly narrower” dynamic island on the device. He doesn’t expect this change to apply to the smaller iPhone 17 Pro or other iPhone 17 models.
While traditional iPhone cameras have curved lenses that redirect light toward the image sensor, metalenses are thin, flat lenses etched with microscopic patterns that can focus light more precisely. It is a lens. In a research report this month, Pu did not provide specific details about how Apple plans to use metalens in its Face ID system, and how the change would narrow the dynamic island. He also did not explain what was going on.
Apple will introduce Dynamic Islands to iPhone 14 Pro models in 2022, and it will also be available on all iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models.
