Honor announced MagicOS 9.0 in China a week before the Magic7 flagship series announcement. It called it the world’s first all-scenario personalized AI operating system and highlighted the deeper integration of what it calls the Yoyo voice assistant, or AI agent.
MagicOS 9.0, based on Android 15, leverages Honor’s proprietary language model, MagicLM, to work with many applications. The company claims that it understands natural language and computer vision while learning from your habits and being context-aware.
In-app controls let you order coffee like a human assistant. The purchase itself is made and the payment is confirmed with a single prompt.
The new 3B parameter model has lower parameters than the previous 7B on-device model, but here MagicLM reduces power consumption by 80%, provides 77% faster loading speeds, and 500% faster word output speeds. All this means storage is reduced by 1.8 GB and RAM consumption is reduced by 1.6 GB.
MagicOS 9.0 also includes industry-first AI deepfake detection to protect users from fraud.
On the design front, the OS brings new features like a versatile desktop, Magic Lock Screen, Magic Style, and provides tools to thoroughly customize your experience. There’s also AI Gallery, AI Eraser, Face Restore, and AI Image Enhancement.
Honor has already confirmed that 30 devices will get the new update and has also revealed the rollout schedule. However, this is for the Chinese market, so the international division will have to wait a little longer than that.
MagicOS 9.0 is expected to be released worldwide within the first few months of 2025, coinciding with the international launch of Magic7 phones. Only then will we know more about the global rollout of this OS and when it will be featured on devices available around the world.
