After a full year of being my fitness partner, the PUSH Workout & Gym Tracker has become an essential part of my training regime. PUSH is the brainchild of fitness influencers. YouTuber Joe Delaneyand is designed to do one thing very well. It’s an app built to help you build muscle as quickly as possible using AI-powered workout routines, rigorous exercise tracking, and measured progressive overload.
The first thing you’ll notice about PUSH is its sleek and well-built interface. Workout and fitness apps are often a cacophony of bright colors, images, text, and numbers everywhere, but that’s not the case with PUSH. You can tell that real effort has been put into the user interface and experience of using the app. The fonts, menus, and icons are all well thought out, spacious, and comprehensive. Set in several colors on a white background, the traffic light system helps inform progress, PB, and plateaus at a glance.
The first time you use PUSH, you’ll be asked to create a workout plan. Plans are flexible but range from 3 to 6 sessions per week. You can also select your preferred splits (gym term for a series of training sessions) by choosing between a “full body” session or a “leg push/pull” session. While the latter is familiar to most gym-goers, the former is the most optimal split, grouping muscles together to minimize crossover fatigue.
You will also be asked about your sleep and stress levels, your training experience, and the muscles you focus on, which will ultimately determine the level of equipment available to you. You can also replace certain exercises in your plan before you start, and when you create a new plan, the app will make recommendations over time, such as increasing or decreasing the frequency of your workouts. Planning software is so simple and easy to use that you always feel like you’ve got the right program for you.
Once you have the program, let’s get started. Easily keep track of your week’s progress by viewing upcoming workouts and scrolling across days to see your agenda. You’ll probably be surprised at how varied the exercises are combined throughout the week. You’ll often find yourself training legs, back, shoulders, chest, arms, core, etc. on the same day or together in unexpected ways, and it’s all part of PUSH’s core optimization process. . Although it was a little unfamiliar at first, I definitely felt the benefits of changing up my training routine and distributing the load more evenly across different muscle groups.
The workout is divided into phases, so start with a high-weight, low-rep strength phase, followed by at least 3 minutes of rest. Next, move on to a steady compound such as lateral pulldowns, then finish with a pump phase that reduces weight, increases reps, and reduces rest. Each exercise is very clearly marked with target weight and reps, just tap the box with your thumb to tick the box to mark a set and start the rep timer. If you don’t reach your rep goal or lift more weight than shown in the app, you can manually adjust your entries.
Over time, the AI will track your progress and eventually suggest new weights or rep increases. This gradually becomes apparent as you use the app, but it’s extremely motivating and gives you an amazing sense of progress. If you stall, we recommend a “plateau breaker” exercise or you can try the exercise again. You can also switch exercises on the fly during your workout.
This app shows you your progress over the past 7 days and highlights muscles that may be growing or stagnant, helping you refocus your efforts during exercise. Masu. Each exercise is accompanied by a helpful animated guide video, but beginners may find it a bit difficult as there is no explanation.
There are some caveats to using PUSH. I don’t like that the break timer doesn’t have a volume control. This has to do with the volume of your music (at least on the iPhone), so the louder the music or podcast, the louder the beep will be when the break ends. AI isn’t perfect either. I recently hit a plateau on my 100kg bench press and the AI suggested I try a 1002.5kg plateau breaker instead of 102.5kg.
It feels unfair to rate this app based on just one purpose, but prospective users should be aware that PUSH is designed solely for building muscle mass in the gym. . There is no Pilates, mobility, cardio or other disciplines here. This is purely strength based. The only other possible drawback is the price. At $89.99 / £89.99 / AU$144.99, the annual subscription is quite a deal, like Apple Fitness Plus or Fitbody.
However, in general, this app has been a pleasure to use in the 12 months I’ve been a customer, and it’s well worth the financial investment. More to come. Test method
I have been paying for PUSH for a year and have used it 6 times each week for the past 12 months. I have been using its features for a year now by creating multiple new plans to follow and performing daily workouts with the help of the app. All of my testing was done on an iPhone 15 Pro Max or iPhone 16 Pro Max.
