Samsung has announced that it will expand Galaxy AI to support four new languages and two new dialects. The company’s suite of native artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities for smartphones and other devices will soon be available in more regions. Additionally, the South Korean tech giant’s AI hub will also support more dialects. Once this expansion is rolled out, Galaxy AI will support a total of 20 languages. Recent reports also suggested that Samsung is working on a feature that will replace smartphone settings menus with Galaxy AI.
Samsung expands Galaxy AI to more languages
The South Korean tech giant announced in a newsroom post that Galaxy AI will soon support Turkish, Dutch, Swedish, Romanian, and new dialects of Traditional Chinese and Portuguese. Samsung said expanded language support will be rolled out from the end of October.
Samsung last expanded language support for its AI suite in April, adding three languages: Arabic, Indonesian, and Russian. Galaxy AI currently supports 16 languages. With the new addition, the tech giant highlighted that the total number of languages supported by Galaxy AI increases to 20.
Once the update is rolled out, users can go to the Settings app on compatible Galaxy devices and look for their specific language pack. Once detected, users can download these languages and Galaxy AI will also be updated with the same languages. “This update means even more users can lower language barriers and step into a wider world with the power of Galaxy AI,” Samsung said.
Language expansion makes AI capabilities more accessible to a wider audience, but is also important for some AI capabilities. For example, the AI-powered live translation feature that provides real-time two-way voice and text translation on the phone requires AI to understand and translate languages and dialects.
Another example is an interpreter feature that allows you to translate a live conversation via split screen between two people sitting next to each other on a compatible device. This also requires language support for AI to analyze speech.
