Testing MagSafe battery packs is a big part of my job at ZDNET. Over the past year, I’ve spent time with more than a dozen battery packs, testing each one for its features, style, features, and most importantly, charging capabilities. I also carry it with me all the time because of my job and the need to always be prepared.
Also: My new favorite MagSafe battery pack supports Qi2 charging, has a kickstand, and is not made by Anker or Baseus
I’ve tried battery packs from brands like Anker, Belkin, Baseus, Casely, Burga, and Hyper, but I haven’t often felt the need to review them in detail. But every now and then I get a chance to test out a MagSafe pack that knocks my socks off, so it would be a shame not to share the details. Please enter Torras MiniMag Power Bank.
Snaps onto the back of your iPhone or device with an adapter using MagSafe technology and is perfect for use with MagSafe cases. The box includes a battery pack and an included USB-C cable for $55 (less at some stores).
It comes in two colors (Glacier Gray and Azalea Pink) and promises a 5,000 mAh battery capacity. Aluminum alloy construction provides an ultra-light feel and features graphene heat dissipation for increased charging safety. You can charge up to 7.5W on the go or up to 18W while connected to a bank, but either way, the indicator light makes it easy to see how much capacity you have left. .
Also: The Anker power bank I use every day has some genius features that make it irreplaceable.
The biggest appeal of Torras batteries is their design. This is the thinnest and lightest pack of this capacity I’ve tested in the last year, which is really saying something. MagSafe battery packs are known to be thick or brick-like, making them unsuitable in some situations. Torras has achieved a slim profile while maintaining a capacity of 5,000mAh. This is the minimum capacity of the battery pack you’ll want to have on hand for boosting or refilling your battery.
To put this into perspective, the Torras MiniMag is only 0.3 inches thick and weighs 4 ounces. The iPhone 15 is only 0.35 inches thick. The MiniMag is literally slimmer than the phone itself, which is an anomaly in the MagSafe battery market. For example, my current best overall pack, the Belkin Boostcharge Pro Qi2, is 0.7 inches thick and weighs 5.3 ounces, which isn’t even one of the largest MagSafe battery packs I’ve tested.
Additionally, Torras MiniMag has a strong magnetic holding force (13N, or approximately 2.2 lbs), making it perfect for worry-free use on the go. However, hitting the pack from the side can cause the MagSafe hold to break off, which is true for almost all magnetic chargers.
In my opinion, MiniMag is the best 5,000mAh choice for everyday use and travel. It’s better than smaller plug-in charging options, but because it actually fits, it’s slim enough to carry in your handbag, work bag, or even your pocket (even when snapped onto your phone, of course).

Also, my iPhone 14 Pro doesn’t have any awkward overhangs that get in the way of the camera or bump into the edges of the case around the camera, which is a big plus. No one wants to charge their phone via MagSafe, but you can’t charge and take an Instagram photo at the same time (been there, done that).
How long does it take to charge my phone?
Now on to the most important part. Thanks to MiniMag, my iPhone 14 Pro went from 42% to 74% in 1 hour. When charging using MagSafe, the maximum output was 7.5W. The pack warmed up, but I didn’t notice any severe overheating (which is to be expected). You can get up to 18W when charging via USB-C, which took about 2.5 hours in my testing.
My only negative point about this pack, if I had to be picky, is that I wish it had more colors, but big brands like Anker and Belkin are also more forgiving about that. It’s starting. Also, the outer surface is very smooth, so it’s not always possible to grip the phone in your hand the most firmly.
ZDNET purchase advice
There are some improvements, but my buying advice for this pack is simple. “It’s a good purchase.” Even at a retail price of $55, this Torras MiniMag Power Bank It’s still quite expensive. However, you can often catch it less than $50according to where to buy Since when (of course, since when).
If you’re looking for extra features like a kickstand, grip, or higher-capacity options, this probably isn’t the battery for you (although Torras is 10,000mAh version Although it’s only half an inch thick, it’s a very practical option to always have a battery pack on hand.
Ultimately, it’s about the same as other MagSafe battery packs I’ve tested. I was very satisfied with the performance, especially the thin design. Despite its small size, there are no compromises in charging or speed, and it’s certainly competitive with similar 5,000mAh packs I’ve tested recently, such as Belkin’s latest BoostCharge Pro pack.
