We knew Apple would start putting M4 chips into a new wave of Macs, but the only real question was when.
Last week, the iPad mini 7 was launched with a surprise press release, so there was some question whether the new MacBook would get the same treatment.
However, prominent Apple tipster Mark Gurman posted on X that the launch is “imminent,” suggesting that Apple will launch the new Mac next week, or October 30th, if not the day before. suggested.
In his first letter, he said Apple would hold a “trial event” in Los Angeles on October 30th. It’s not clear whether new Macs will appear at this hands-on event, but if they do, Apple will probably have to announce upcoming devices before journalists and influencers check them out.
If Apple announces earlier, the announcement could be that Wednesday or Tuesday, October 29th.
Apple will be hosting media/creators in my city LA on October 30th at different appointment times throughout the day. It doesn’t seem like you’re gathering a group to watch a keynote video. Therefore, as I have been pointing out, the announcement is online only (video and press release). https://t.co/sVk6GjrVeCOctober 22, 2024
Garman continued the thread by saying that Apple doesn’t seem to be trying to get media in one place to watch keynote videos and speeches. This indicates that Apple will make the announcement online, probably through a press release and some kind of video, similar to how they announced the iPad mini.
The announcement is expected to see the release of a variety of devices, including the M4-powered iMac, M4 MacBook Pro, redesigned M4 Mac mini, and a host of USB-C accessories. There may also be a new MacBook Air, but that’s not very certain.
We’ve seen reports, including Garman’s, of low inventories of existing products and no new shipments scheduled. This usually indicates an update is coming.
As of this writing, only the current iPad Pro, released in May 2024, has the M4 system-on-chip. This may mean that Apple doesn’t feel the need to go into as much detail about this chip, or the chips in its laptop and desktop systems.
I’d like to keep an eye on Apple next week. So check back to Tom’s Guide next week when the latest Apple devices are released for all the new information.
