Apple is said to be working on an entirely new App Store-type application made specifically for gaming to make its products more appealing to gamers.
Currently, iPhone games can only be downloaded through the existing App Store or Apple Arcade, the company’s subscription-only approach to mobile games.
Apple’s new application is said to combine aspects of the existing App Store and Game Center in one place. All specific details about the suspected application, its content, layout, and functionality were revealed through a dedicated report.
report from 9to5 mac Apple claims that its new game-focused app store will include a “Play Now” tab in addition to a tab for users’ friends. The “Play Now” tab will likely include content hand-picked by the app’s editorial staff, and the app will also feature challenges, leaderboards, and achievements.
Both Apple Arcade games and existing App Store games will reportedly be available. The potential app is also rumored to have FaceTime and iMessage integration, which would allow users to communicate with each other while gaming. Developers can now use App Clips to demo their games.
The report credits anonymous people with knowledge of the matter, and there is no information on when the rumored app will be released. There is no way to confirm the accuracy of the rumor as the source cannot be confirmed, but it is rated as possible as it is not out of the realm of possibility.
