It’s no exaggeration to say that iOS 18 is more customizable than any previous release. iOS 16’s big personalized lock screen update definitely lets you add some personality to your iPhone, but it’s nothing compared to the freedom iOS 18 gives you.
Unfortunately, that means it takes a little work. Apple’s latest major update now lets you customize lock screen shortcuts, expands action button customization (now available on all new models), and finally changes home screen layout and colors. Now you have complete control over your , and includes an all-new Control Center. Features multiple pages, third-party controls, resizable controls, and more. And don’t forget the redesigned and reorganized Photos app. all.
The freedom to customize these to your liking is unprecedented. need To customize these. The defaults weren’t particularly great, and in some cases, they infuriated users who updated because they couldn’t stand the way Apple changed them. We think you’ll really love iOS 18, but you’ll have to spend a lot of time first setting it up to your liking. What a hassle!
Make action buttons easier to use
Last year, the action button was only on the iPhone 15 Pro, but this year it’s on all four iPhone 16 models. Additionally, Apple has added a few more options and it’s easy to set up, so let’s start there. Open settings > action button Swipe through the options and choose the one you think is a little more useful than the mute feature.
Apple offers many options, but the most powerful option is the ability to launch shortcuts, which allow you to perform powerful actions with a single long press of the action button. You can try this out or find a good example at MacStories.net.
My favorite feature is setting an action button to open Control Center. This is only possible if you’re running iOS 18.1 (in beta at the time of this writing). Here’s how: Create a new shortcut and add the “Show Control Center” action to it. that’s it! (If you find this helpful, here’s my link. Open it on your iPhone.) Then,[アクション ボタン]Go to the settings menu and set that shortcut to active.
Replace lock screen buttons
The next easiest way to customize iOS 18 is to swap out the buttons on your lock screen. The flashlight and camera buttons have been lock screen staples for so long that you might never have thought about what else you’d want. But with iPhone 16, the camera control button gives you quick access to the camera, reducing the need for a dedicated lock screen button, so Apple is giving everyone using iOS 18 a third option for one or both buttons. We have provided a function that allows you to replace the button with the button. Party apps and features.
To get started, long press on the lock screen (if you’re on the home screen, swipe down from the top left corner of the notification shade to enter the lock screen). tap customizationtap lock screenand tap one of the icons to make your changes. You can choose from Shazam, Stopwatch, ChatGPT, or any other app you like.
Rearrange and redesign the home screen
Maybe you have your home screen (or screens) configured to your liking. Maybe you have a dozen or so folders from years ago that you refuse to give your App Library a chance. That’s fine, but you might also enjoy a little glow on your home screen.
Tap and hold an empty spot on the home screen until all the icons shake and a (-) symbol appears in the corner. You can also drag icons wherever you want to leave free space for widgets or make your wallpaper easier to see.
There’s more. From this view, tap edit in the upper left, and customization. Here you can resize the icons, set them to always be dark or light, give them a custom tint appearance, and more. If you want to go even further, add more widgets (drag same-sized widgets on top of each other to create smart stacks) or delete the entire home screen page to keep everything organized.
control control center
Control Center is very different in iOS 18, with new pages and buttons, and a completely new layout. This will probably take more time than the other customization steps, but it can also have the biggest impact (especially if you set the action button to open Control Center, as shown above).
Open Control Center (swipe down from the top right corner) and tap the “+” button in the top left corner. This will put you in edit mode. You can now tap and drag a control to reposition it, or tap and drag a corner to resize it. Some controls actually look and behave differently at different sizes, so you should experiment.
Note that the Control Center has multiple pages, and you can swipe up or down to switch between pages. You can place multiple copies of the same control on different pages, or even on the same page if desired.
Once you have it where you want it, tap the + Add Control button at the bottom of the screen to add a new control. Some installed apps can provide controls, while others are updated with new controls over time.
Fix the Photos app
iOS 18’s new Photos app has been met with mixed (if favorable) reviews, but most of the problems stem from the amount of scrolling and swiping you have to do to get to what you’re looking for. There is.
But there is a fix. Scroll to the bottom and tap Customize and sort. There, you can turn off the categories you don’t need and drag the categories you want to a different order. With a little organization, the Photos app will be much easier to use, more customizable, and just as easy to use as it was before.
