Apple’s most affordable iPad models are expected to receive an update with Apple Intelligence features in late 2025. bloomberg Reporter Mark Garman suggested it.
In the latest Power On newsletter, Garman said the iPhone SE will have Apple Intelligence capabilities in March 2025, and the entry-level iPad will also arrive “later this year.” Garman also suggested that by 2026, nearly all Apple devices with screens will support Apple Intelligence.
The timeline shows a significant gap from the last update for the entry-level iPad in October 2022. The update delay can be attributed to the technical requirements for implementing AI features on the budget-friendly $349 device.
The current 10th generation iPad is powered by the A14 chip, which was first used in the iPhone 12 lineup, but it’s becoming obsolete. The logical choice for the next iPad is the A16, which was used in the iPhone 15 models, but if Apple wants to make Apple Intelligence as accessible as possible, it will need an A17 Pro chip or an A18 chip. Possibly.
Notably, Apple last week announced the latest iPad mini with support for Apple Intelligence through a standalone press release. The company also lowered the price of existing iPad 10s and stopped including a charger with the devices in Europe. Even with the impending release of iPad 11, it’s highly unlikely that Apple would have changed the iPad lineup in this way.
It’s unclear whether Apple plans to hold a Mac-specific event in October, but either way it looks like the iPad 11 won’t be announced this month.
