The Google Play Store continues to be the primary destination for downloading and installing apps on virtually all Android flagship products. You can download and install apps with the click of a button, but this seamless process often makes it difficult to remember which apps you recently installed but haven’t opened yet. Google could potentially solve this problem with a download manager within the Play Store that allows you to track recently downloaded apps.

Google is working on a download manager feature for the Play Store. Some strings were found in v42.9.16-31. They point to this feature, but don’t know much about it other than some options to sort apps in this view.

This feature was activated in v43.2.16-29 and we now have more details about this feature and an idea of how it works. The Download Manager in the Google Play Store shows you all the apps that are currently being downloaded, as well as all recently installed apps that you haven’t opened yet. When you open an app in the list, it will be taken out of the list and any apps you haven’t opened will be refreshed. Watch the video below to see the download manager in action.
Additionally, the number of recently downloaded apps and games will be displayed as a badge at the top of the app details page.

What you would normally expect from a download manager is the ability to pause and resume downloads, but the Play Store’s download manager doesn’t have that feature yet. Given the ever-increasing size of apps and games, some users may appreciate the ability to pause downloads and resume them later, especially if they’re on a metered connection where limits update daily. Maybe.
Currently, the download manager in the Play Store only lists apps that have been downloaded but not yet opened. This will be useful for people who download multiple apps at once and forget to open them.
This feature isn’t currently live on the Play Store, and Google hasn’t disclosed anything about its existence, so it may or may not be released in the future. We will update this article as soon as we know more.
