As rumored in the past, Apple is planning a major change to its iPhone lineup next year with an all-new iPhone 17 Slim model. Today, a new report from trusted analyst Jeff Pu outlines much of what you can expect from this new iPhone model.
iPhone 17 slim
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo highlighted many of the iPhone 17 Slim’s specs in July, emphasizing that Apple is emphasizing form over function. For example, the iPhone 17 Slim is expected to have only one rear camera and a 6.6-inch display.
In this week’s investor note, 9to5 macJeff Pu corroborates many of these details. According to analysts, the specifications of iPhone 17 Slim are:
- chip:A19
- screen: 6.6 inches
- rum:8GB
- front camera: 24MP
- rear camera: Single 48MP camera
- biometric authentication: Face recognition
- casing:aluminum
Pu added that he expects the iPhone 17 Slim to have an all-new design and form factor and serve as a “replacement” for the Plus model. It’s unclear whether he was referring to “alternatives” in terms of price, screen size, or other factors. information reported in May that the iPhone 17 Slim’s price “could be higher than the iPhone Pro Max.”
iPhone 17 details
Regarding the performance and specs of the entire lineup, Pu reports:
- iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Slim: 8GB RAM, A19 chip
- iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max: 12GB RAM, A19 Pro chip
Additionally, Pu reports that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will also feature a “narrowed dynamic island,” while other models will maintain their current design. The iPhone 17 Pro Max’s small dynamic island is made possible by new “metalens” technology for the proximity sensor. “Metalens” technology could help Apple significantly reduce the size of its Face ID sensor.
All four iPhone 17 models are once again said to feature a 24MP front-facing camera, which is a notable upgrade from the current 12MP camera. This was also reported by Ming-Chi Kuo.
The specifications reported by Mr. Pu this time are mainly doublings of previous reports. This suggests that Apple’s plans for the iPhone 17 lineup remain unchanged, at least for now. However, the iPhone 17 lineup won’t actually be announced until September 2025, so there’s still plenty of time for things to change based on production and supply chain issues and other factors.
Based on what we know at the moment, if the so-called iPhone 17 Slim features a dramatically new design, would you be interested in it? Let us know in the comments.
