Weighing only 236 grams and 10.6 mm thick, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is 1.5 mm thinner and 3 grams lighter than its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The Special Edition stands out from the Galaxy foldable lineup with its striped pattern on the back. Samsung says the phone is made of high-grade metal/glass materials. You can also see that Samsung has modified the camera housing a bit, making it rectangular rather than oval.
Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition: Camera and performance
In a significant upgrade, the Special Edition features a 200MP main camera compared to the 50MP primary shooter on the regular Galaxy Z Fold 6. All other camera sensors are the same as the standard model, but Samsung says this upgrade provides sharper, sharper footage. Detailed photos and videos.
Complementing the new camera is increased memory capacity, with 16 GB RAM for multitasking or performing AI tasks. The standard Galaxy Z Fold 6 has a maximum capacity of 12GB RAM. The new phone only offers a 512GB storage version, while the Galaxy Z Fold 6 comes in 256GB and 1TB options.
The Special Edition’s 8-inch main screen has a 20:18 ratio when unfolded, making it the widest screen in the Galaxy Z Fold lineup. The cover screen is also a practical 6.5-inch screen with a 21:9 aspect ratio. Both the main display and cover display are slightly larger than the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
Another difference between Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition is in the Wi-Fi functionality. The standard model comes with Wi-Fi 6e, while the special edition supports Wi-Fi 7. This means the latter has much better download, streaming, and gaming speeds.
Regarding battery life, Samsung says that the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition has a rated capacity of 4,272mAh. In contrast, the standard model has a standard capacity of 4,400mAh. The company hasn’t revealed the standard capacity of the special edition, but its battery will likely be smaller than the one in the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
The new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition is powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, so you can also expect top-notch performance. Samsung is promising the same seven years of updates for new phones, so we should see new Android versions until 2031. The device launched with One UI 6.1.1 based on Android 14 and ideally should be eligible for One UI. 7 beta will be released later this year.
