Eva Mendes runs a narrow boat from her home.
The Hitch star, who has daughters Esmeralda, 10, and Amada, 8, with Ryan Gosling, spoke about her parenting style and family rules in an interview with The Sunday Times on Thursday. .
Mendes, 50, revealed that he does not allow his home-schooled children to use smartphones or social media.
“Putting my child on the internet and saying, ‘Oh, search for something,’ to me is the same as saying to her, ‘Oh, please walk down the street in the middle of the night.’ It’s okay. “Yo,” she said.
“It may sound extreme, but that’s how I feel,” she added.
The author of “Desi, Mami, and Endless Trouble” also talked about how she tries to give her children a perspective on privileged upbringing.
“I explained to them what I didn’t have, what I didn’t have when Ryan was little, how hard we had to work, the dark days of living paycheck to paycheck. But they never understand. You don’t know until you experience it,” Mendez explained.
The actress also said that she tries to develop her daughters’ self-esteem by letting them do things around the house.
But Mendes admitted she worries about what they’re unintentionally learning from her.
“I still have this anxiety, and I think it’s transmitted to my kids,” Mendez said. “Unconsciously, I can’t imagine anything they inherited from me that I wouldn’t want them to inherit.”
Mendes said she grew up to be a “good kid” thanks to her late brother Juan Carlos, who passed away in 2016.
“He said, ‘If I see you outside with a guy or smoking a cigarette, I’m going to kick his ass and drive you to school every day. ‘I was like, ”’ she recalled. “It was a complete horror, but I was a good kid.”
Mendes met Gosling in 2011 while working on The Place Beyond the Pines, and the two have been romantically involved ever since.
During the interview, Mendes credited Gosling with making him feel “sexy” in his 50s.
“I feel really sexy sometimes,” she gushed. “My husband’s view of me is just… sometimes I think, oh my gosh. It may not sit well with people, but a lot of how I feel is a reflection of what he has given me. I am.”
The mother-of-two took a step back from acting to focus on raising her children, which she previously said was the “easiest decision” she had ever made.
In August, the family of four took a rare outing to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
