The internet is abuzz with rumors of a Tesla phone called the Model Pi or P. But is there any truth to this speculation?
At this time, there is no concrete evidence to support the existence of Tesla phones. This rumor appears to stem from a 2021 YouTube video showcasing the designer’s concept, rather than an actual leak. Many online articles rely solely on this source, perpetuating the myth.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk further disappointed expectations by explicitly denying Tesla’s cell phone plans on two separate occasions. In June 2024, he declared during a livestream that he would not develop a Tesla phone. This statement definitively ended speculation for many.
However, this wasn’t the first time Musk has addressed this rumor. In November 2023, after Tesla acquired Twitter (now X), it hinted at the possibility of a “replacement phone” if the platform faced app store restrictions. However, he later clarified his position by denying that he uses Tesla smartphones.
Despite Musk’s denials, some analysts believe the arrival of a Tesla phone is inevitable. Morgan Stanley analysts see Tesla’s smartphone as a likely option, seeing it as a natural extension of the company’s connected car ecosystem. These highlight seamless integration between mobile phones and Teslas, with features such as unlocking via a smartphone app.
Recently, Musk expressed security concerns regarding the integration of X and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. This has sparked speculation about the possibility of a Tesla phone being launched to address these concerns. Musk acknowledged that the idea is not “out of the question,” but his current stance remains unclear.
For now, Tesla’s phone remains a rumor. Analyst predictions and Musk’s own security concerns point to a possibility, although Musk has twice categorically denied it.
