Apple is developing a new slimmer iPhone model to replace the iPhone Plus, which could boost sales in 2025, according to a new report from Haitong International Technology Research analyst Jeff Pu. .
The “iPhone 17 Slim” is also known as the “iPhone 17 Air” and is said to be equipped with a 6.6-inch display. This makes it slightly larger than the 6.1-inch iPhone 17 and 6.3-inch iPhone 17 Pro, but slightly smaller than the 6.9-inch iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Pu believes the new device will have an A19 N3P chip, 8GB of LPDD5 RAM, a 24MP 6P FaceTime camera, and a single 48MP 7P rear camera.
Considering the name, we can assume that the new model will be noticeably thinner than the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro. However, no specifications have yet been found on how thin it should be. The iPhone 16 Pro has a thickness of 8.25mm (0.32 inches). Compare this to Apple’s new slim iPad Pro, which is 5.1 mm (0.20 inches) thick.
Haitong City predicts that iPhone shipments in 2024 will decrease by 4% from the previous year to 223 million units. Within this forecast, the iPhone 16 model is expected to account for 88 million units in the production plan. The company maintains its outlook for a moderate sales cycle for the iPhone 16, followed by a strong replacement cycle next year with the new iPhone 17 Slim and the gradual rollout of AI features.
