We all know that feeling when your alarm goes off and you can’t help but reach for the snooze button. But what if you had an alarm clock that you couldn’t snooze? That’s where the Nuj alarm clock comes in.
Nuj (pronounced “nudge”) is an app that requires you to get out of bed and scan a barcode to turn off your alarm. Not doing so will actually cost you money.
Here’s how it works:
- Set the alarm just like any other alarm clock.
- Choose whether you want to pledge to donate to charity if you don’t reach your goal
time. You have the option to donate $5, $10, $20, or $50. - Select barcodes from items in your bathroom or kitchen.
- Please scan the code in advance and save it to the app.
- If the alarm sounds, you cannot stop the alarm by tapping the screen. Instead, you have to get out of bed, go to the bathroom or kitchen, and scan a barcode.
- There’s no snooze button, and if you don’t scan the code within five minutes, you’ll pay a fine. Donations will be donated to the Khan Academy charity.
Nuj Alarm Clock is a free app, but a $50 annual premium subscription lets you choose your own charity.
This app may not be suitable for everyone, but it can be a great solution if you have trouble getting out of bed in the morning, or if you absolutely can’t afford to be late. Financial motivation may be what you need to finally break the snooze button habit.
