We’ve been featuring the Peak Design Everyday canvas case for at least the past few years, but this year they’ve introduced an all-new model made from vegan Clarino leather. How can we compete with the abundance of vegan leather in the world? Has the brand righted the wrongs of last year’s action button mishap? Simply put, it was very good, and yes, very good. Below are my impressions after actually using it.

9to5 toys take
We’ve tested Peak Design’s Everyday fabric canvas style case several times over the years. It’s a solid option, so we thought we’d check out the brand’s first foray into the vegan leather space with its new Clarino case. iPhone16.
Many of the same design approaches we’ve seen in the brand’s other Everyday cases in the past apply to this model. Most notable is the SlimLink connectivity system located on the back of the case, just above the built-in MagSafe array. This system is back on Everyday Clarino models, effectively doubling the MagSafe action when connecting to the brand’s numerous car mounts, motorcycle add-ons, tripods, and more. The functionality is almost the same. Same as last year and just as good.
The real change in this case, of course, is that the brand has used Clarino leather. I was and still am a fan of the brand’s fabric treatments, but I wanted to get my hands on this special brand of vegan leather. I’m glad I actually tried it out. It was very nice.
For those who prefer a leather-like finish, Clarino Vegan Leather offers the look and feel of soft premium leather, while being weather and abrasion resistant and made from industrial waste. This option offers a sustainable alternative that maintains both durability and style.
While most vegan and synthetic leathers have a rubbery, plastic-like feel, the Clarino used here is almost different. It has a bit of a rubbery feel to it, but whereas most vegan leathers try to approximate a typical full-grain leather, this one leans more towards an almost suede-type leather feel. It’s not all that soft and furry (if you know what I mean), but it’s the closest thing to it that I have tested As for cases like this…I really like it.
I wish this Clarino leather had completely wrapped the sides of the case instead of being replaced by a matching rubber-like material, but personally that’s not an issue for me. The colors match well and add an interesting touch to the overall look, but I still think a full wrap would be better here.
This rubbery edge wraps around the sides, top, and bottom of the phone, making it a little too heavy for my liking, but again it’s a millimeter game, perhaps just 1mm. Also, while this slightly thicker wraparound approach may make it appear that the case bezel sticks out a little too much in relation to the screen, it actually doesn’t, and is raised enough to protect the tabletop. Also notice that there is a bezel. , but not so much that it’s annoying or ugly.
The problem with the iPhone 15 series Peak Design cases, at least initially, was the handling of the action button…there was no such thing. It was a bit disappointing for people to just choose the cutout (the brand issued a refund and store credit, which was fine). This time around, the brand has nailed it completely when it comes to the action button, volume button, and power button, and they are great.
On tan models like the one in this review, the brand has used a golden copper-like color on the metal button covers here, which looks gorgeous. All four have very subtle etched details and look and feel completely premium. I really like the button handling here.
Of course, this leads to a camera control situation. Like almost every case manufacturer this year, Peak Design opted for cutouts. But unlike most case makers this year, the company got it right. We’ve seen many brands make good use of cutouts, keeping the bare camera controls fully accessible and functional. You can now add the Clarino leather Peak Design Everyday case to your list.
There’s a subtle rounded cutout here with sloping sides all around the camera control button, which, for me at least, allows for single-button press and slide gestures, as well as subtle double-press actions. It’s completely usable for both. I prefer the full 3/4 cutout look of Nomad’s Traditional Leather case, which is just as good in terms of functionality.
The solid camera control cutouts, really gorgeous buttons, and almost suede-like animal-friendly leather are the real highlights here. Adding the SlimLink Design System further enhances accessory connectivity. If you don’t mind the rubberized edges and (very) slightly thick bezels, it’s a real winner.
