Ahead of the rollout starting in November, Oppo announced ColorOS 15 with some big UI changes, but also some “inspiration” from iOS.
At today’s event in China, Oppo announced ColorOS 15 (via GSM Arena), its Android 15 update. The new version focuses on animations and includes some UI updates. Aurora and Tidal Engine allows animations to run in parallel for a smoother experience when switching between apps, and Motion Effects improves animations in both Oppo apps and third-party apps. Masu. Oppo also says behind-the-scenes improvements should make app installation 26% faster and make apps more responsive by about 18%.
But there are changes here that have a much bigger impact.
For one, Oppo has split out the notification shade from Quick Settings. This is what Samsung is doing with One UI 7, and Google is also rumored to be doing it in the future. There are also a number of new AI features, including a new way to interact with Oppo’s XiaoBu Assistant using natural language and a new way to use your XiaoBu to circle and find more information about on-screen content. there is. AI is also used for image processing and editing, such as removing blur, enlarging images, and removing reflections. AI can also summarize content in apps like Notes apps and voice recorders.
However, a quick look at Oppo’s ColorOS 15 promotional video reveals a ton of features that are clearly copies of iOS features. It’s a blatant clone of Dynamic Island, with a big focus on a heavily customizable lock screen that looks eerily similar to Apple’s implementation (some of the wallpapers may be separated, some may have multiple (e.g. ability to save lock screen settings).
Even Oppo’s AI assistant has the same interface as Siri with Apple Intelligence, with a colorful light-up border around the screen when the assistant is activated.
Oppo will start rolling out ColorOS 15 on devices like the Find X7 in November, and plans to expand to dozens of Oppo and OnePlus devices in China (and global markets) by March next year.
OnePlus today announced plans to show off its own Android 15 update, OxygenOS 15, next week. It is expected to have essentially all the same features and design and be aimed squarely at the global market.
