Let’s take another closer look at Samsung’s new Galaxy S24 FE. Buckle up, because we’re about to take the Fan Edition smartphones for a performance test drive alongside the flagship Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Will the slightly underclocked Exynos 2400e chip powering the Galaxy S24 FE be able to keep up with the regular Exynos 2400 inside the Galaxy S24, or even the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip at the heart of the Galaxy S24 Ultra?
In our new video, which you can watch below, we test the capabilities of these three phones with apps like Geekbench, Lumafusion, and Lightroom. We also looked at Galaxy AI performance on the devices and the differences in camera modes between the three devices.
You might be surprised by the results, especially if you’re coming into this video with a bit of a bias against Exynos. Check out the video and learn more below.
The Galaxy S24 FE’s Exynos 2400e chip not only performed admirably next to the standard Galaxy S24 flagship, but both Exynos 2400 solutions caught up and at times outperformed the Galaxy S24 Ultra and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chips. Sometimes I did.
Granted, the Galaxy S24 Ultra ranks higher than the other two in the Geekbench test, but then again, the Ultra model was surprisingly slow in the OpenCL test as well. Additionally, other tests we ran should reinforce the notion that synthetic benchmarks don’t tell the whole story.
Overall, the performance differences between the three models are small enough to consider when deciding which of these devices to purchase. The actual experience is more important, and it’s worth noting that the Galaxy S24 Ultra offers better camera modes due to better image processing hardware. It also has great features that the S24 FE doesn’t have, like the S Pen and a larger screen with anti-reflective coating.
Nevertheless, looking at these results, I feel that the Exynos stigma is not justified in 2024, at least when it comes to the 2400 series. No matter what you think about Exynos as a brand or the underclocked Exynos 2400e chip, there’s no denying that the Galaxy S24 FE offers flagship-grade performance at a low price.
Admittedly, it doesn’t have the camera power of more expensive phones, nor does it have the same LTPO Dynamic AMOLED premium display as the rest of the series, so it can’t support AOD wallpapers. But when it comes to day-to-day performance, the Exynos 2400e SoC and S24 FE don’t disappoint when competing with the top-of-the-line S24 Ultra.
For a closer look at the test and results, we recommend watching the entire video above. If you want to buy the Galaxy S24 FE, you can now buy it from Samsung in most markets around the world.
