A new change is about to take place in Apple’s management team. bloomberg Today we’re reporting that Apple’s chief human resources officer, Carol Surface, is leaving the company. Surface joined Apple less than two years ago in March 2023.
Surface was Apple’s first-ever chief human resources officer and reported directly to Apple CEO Tim Cook. Surface takes over these responsibilities from Deirdre O’Brien, who served as Apple’s senior vice president of Retail + People from 2019 to March 2023. When Surface started at the company, Apple removed HR responsibilities from O’Brien’s role so she could do it. Dedicated to retail business full-time.
As chief human resources officer, Surface was tasked with overseeing talent development and Apple University, recruiting, employee relations and experience, benefits, compensation, and inclusion and diversity.
bloomberg He noted that with Surface’s departure, O’Brien, a 30-year Apple veteran, will once again be at the helm of both Apple’s retail and human resources teams.

Before joining Apple, Surface spent 10 years at medical device company Medtronic as executive vice president of human resources. She also spent 3.5 years in the same role at Best Buy and over 10 years in human resources and human resources at PepsiCo.
Surface’s departure is the latest in a series of executive changes at Apple.
