Industry Minister Agus Gumiwan Kartasasmita said last week that US multinationals have not yet fulfilled their investment commitments to Indonesia and need to renew their domestic component level (TKDN) licenses.
“Apple’s iPhone 16 cannot be sold in Indonesia yet as the TKDN certification extension is still pending and we are waiting for further investment from Apple to materialize,” Agus told reporters in Jakarta on October 8. ” he said.
He said Apple has only invested Rp1.48 trillion (US$95 million) in Indonesia, “which falls short of the total commitment of Rp1.71 trillion.”
Ministry spokesperson Febri Hendry Antoni Arif told local news outlet Kumpalan that the California-based technology giant has yet to make the investments it promised through its four research and development facilities in Indonesia.
