new york—NBCUniversal Local has added several new weather products to the NBC and Telemundo-owned station’s mobile app. These products feature new designs that provide customization tools, streamlined layouts, and faster and easier access to local weather data, information, and forecasts.
As part of the upgrade, English and Spanish weather sections are now available on the iOS and Android apps for all 35 stations owned by NBC and Telemundo.
“It’s our mission to provide our community with the most extensive and accurate weather forecasts in English and Spanish. That’s why we’ve created this new service that keeps everyone informed and safe, how and when they want. We are proud to announce the experience,” said Laura Dennis, NBCU Executive Vice President of Regional Multiplatform. “This redesign was an extensive effort that relied on significant research and data, the expertise of meteorologists and weather experts across the country, and most importantly, our users who provided significant feedback. ”
NBCU Local said the app’s new design prioritizes personalization, with customization features that allow users to customize how content modules are organized and displayed. You also have more control over the display of radar features such as layers and overlays. Advanced settings make it easier to manage weather alerts and notifications, including new options for adding locations and accessing recent locations.
A streamlined layout and intuitive design allows users to quickly access the most relevant and important data and information, including current status and forecasts, and navigate to different features. NBCU Local said the enhanced display uses larger fonts for easier reading and features easier-to-understand icons.
Users with updates enabled will automatically have new versions of weather products installed. Users without automatic updates must manually update the app to access new features.
Once the update is complete, a highlighted “new” setting will appear in your app settings. Users can tap there to view a walkthrough that introduces them to the updated weather experience, highlights its key features, and provides customization guidance.
NBCU Local’s stations serve 30 U.S. markets including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, San Francisco, Houston, Washington, Philadelphia, Boston, Miami and Puerto Rico.
