Introducing Apple’s 7th generation iPad mini. Arriving more than three years after its predecessor, the new tablet adds the faster A17 Pro chip originally found in the iPhone 15 Pro series, along with support for Apple Intelligence, more entry-level storage, and more. Includes support for Apple Pencil Pro.
The iPad mini 7 has the same 8.3-inch screen size as its predecessor, and the same 2266 x 1488 resolution at 326 ppi. Unfortunately, the refresh rate remains at a modest 60Hz. As far as we know, the display is the same as before. The dimensions remain the same. The front camera is still in the portrait position, which is to be expected for a device of this size, and both the front and rear cameras appear unchanged from previous iPad minis.
While there aren’t any major design upgrades, this update is important on the inside. The A17 Pro chip enables the new tablet to use Apple Intelligence features such as smarter Siri, writing tools, Image Playground, and Genmoji. The base-level model also comes with twice the RAM and 128GB of storage as the 2021 model. For the first time, a 512GB storage option has also been added.
The new iPad mini will be available on October 23rd, starting at $499 with 128GB of storage.
Updated October 15, 2024, 9:40 a.m. ET: The post originally stated that the new iPad mini uses an A18 chip. Updated to use A17 Pro chip. We apologize for the error.
