TL;DR
- HONOR CEO George Zhao announced the launch of HONOR Magic 7 series mobile phones on October 30th.
- These phones are likely to come with Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chips and larger batteries.
- The company also confirmed that Magic OS 9.0 will be released next week.
HONOR Magic 6 Pro is one of the best Android smartphones of 2024 in terms of hardware and offers many cutting-edge features. We already know that the Magic 7 series is coming, and company executives have announced the release date.
HONOR CEO George Zhao announced today (October 14th) on Weibo that the HONOR Magic 7 series mobile phones will be released on October 30th. The executive shared a poster of the event. See machine translated version below.
Zhao also noted that Magic OS 9.0 software will be released on October 23rd. We expect this software to be available on devices in global markets by the end of the year.
So what should we expect from the Magic 7 series?
These phones have always used the latest flagship Snapdragon chipsets, so a Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor is pretty much guaranteed. HONOR is also the first major brand to use silicon carbon batteries in its smartphones, so we expect a large battery at least on par with the Magic 6 Pro’s 5,600mAh capacity.
Either way, we praised the Magic 6 Pro’s battery life, camera hardware, video capabilities, and performance. However, we criticized the phone’s poor USB-PD support, “messy” Magic OS skin, and haphazard 180MP telephoto camera. Therefore, we expect the company to address all these weaknesses with the new phone.
This October 30th launch is almost certainly a China-only affair. HONOR tends to release its main Magic flagships outside of China in the first quarter of each year, so if you want to officially get your hands on the Magic 7 series, you might have to wait a few months.
It’s also worth noting that the HONOR Magic 7 series isn’t the first next-gen Android flagship to be launched. Vivo will announce its X200 series of phones later today (October 14), while the OPPO Find X8 series will be launched on October 24. However, both OPPO and vivo phones will be powered by Dimensity 9400 chipset. So unless Xiaomi beats it all out, HONOR’s phone could be the first to feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 silicon.
