According to Bloomberg’s Mark Garman, Apple is preparing some additional vision-based products. Smart glasses similar to the collaboration between Meta and Ray-Ban and AirPods with cameras are also expected to appear. These products won’t be available until at least 2027, if ever.
According to the report, Apple hopes to recoup some of its billion-dollar R&D investment in Apple Vision Pro’s visual intelligence by bringing the technology to more products. This was already confirmed with the announcement of visual intelligence in addition to camera controls on the iPhone 16, and Apple’s next step is reportedly to bring this to the glasses form factor.
Rather than being full AR glasses with a display, the glasses are smart glasses with a built-in camera, speaker, and microphone, similar to Meta’s very popular Ray Ban glasses. Meta sells these glasses for as low as $299, but you can also choose more expensive frames.
Additionally, the company is still planning AirPods with cameras, as previously reported. It’s unclear what makes this an attractive product rather than just a pair of glasses, and AirPods feels like a bad product for an outward-facing camera, but Apple is still experimenting with form factors for visual intelligence capabilities.
