The upcoming iOS 18.1 update will allow users to change their previous primary email address, as well as users with iCloud.com, mac.com, or me.com email addresses.
Previously, Apple didn’t allow changing your primary email address in iCloud. Alternatively, those who regret or no longer wish to use their primary address can create a small number of “alias” email addresses that cover most uses.
However, starting with iOS 18.1, users can change the primary email address associated with their Apple Account (formerly known as Apple ID) and use the new or old address to log in. Previously, users had to delete their old primary address. Send an email and reconfirm your identity to select a new one.
Even if you use an alias, your primary email address may be visible to other users when you send a request to share or collaborate on a document. The same goes for sending event invitations through the Calendar app.
This change was first discovered by mcroomersallows those who have opted for the frivolous @icloud.com, @mac.com, or @me.com, or whose old primary email address has simply outgrown it, to update it. Apple’s move gives users, for the first time, the option to remove their primary email address in iCloud, as well as the ability to turn it off.
