Android 15 has been out for a while, but new features are still being discovered, such as a screen saver that lets you control your smart home without unlocking your phone.
The home control feature turns your phone into a smart home dashboard when it’s docked. This isn’t just limited to Google’s platform.
Home Control works with the Google Home app and Pixel smartphones, but also with at least one other smart home app, Home Assistant, and smartphones running Android 15-based operating systems.
To enable the Home Control screensaver, go to the Settings app,[ディスプレイとタッチ]Go to the tab and in it[スクリーン セーバー]Click on the tab.
Once Home Control is activated, you’ll see a screen loaded with smart home options when you connect your phone to a dock or charger.
Google added the home control screensaver to the third beta of Android 15 in June, Android Authority reported.
However, Android 15 is just beginning its path to flagship devices, with Google’s own Pixel smartphones set to receive an Android 15-based OS update on October 15th.
The report adds that the home control screensaver runs through the Android SystemUI app and incorporates activity from Google Home or a third-party home assistant app.
Those worried about battery health when leaving their smartphones connected to a charger for long periods of time will be happy to hear that Android 15 imposes an 80% charging cap on Pixel smartphones. We hope to see this feature rolled out to other platforms as well.
But for now, we’re happy to see these useful smart home options rolling out to all Android 15 users.
When will my phone get Android 15?
When a particular Android smartphone will receive Android 15 features will depend on the phone manufacturer’s plans.
Phone manufacturers that use Android tend to add skins with some unique features known as “wrappers”, which are sometimes styled to look like the operating system itself.
As mentioned earlier, Pixel phones are expected to ship with Android 15 later this month, and other manufacturers like Motorola and Nothing have also announced rollout plans or begun beta testing.
